RICHMOND — A Brunswick man was injured and taken by a LifeFlight of Maine helicopter to a local hospital Thursday morning after being hit by a pickup truck while riding his bicycle through an intersection in Richmond.
Taber Newton was being treated later in the day for a possible head injury and at least one broken arm, officials said.
The incident occurred at 10:07 a.m., after Shirley Palmer of Sabattus ran through a stop sign at the intersection of Lancaster and Brunswick roads and hit Newton, police said.
Newton was one of “several bikes riding” at the time, according to Chief Deputy Brett Strout of the Sagadahoc County Sherriff’s Office.
Palmer has been charged with causing serious bodily injury while his license was suspended.
Palmer was driving a 2021 Toyota Tacoma. Strout said there was “no reason to suspect” Palmer was under the influence.
The Sagadahoc County Sherriff’s Office was the first to arrive on the scene, but the Richmond Police Department took over the case, which remained under investigation.
