Couple injured in Penobscot County crash that sent vehicle 14 feet in the air

A 78-year-old Dover-Foxcroft man sustained life-threatening injuries and his 71-year-old wife was also injured, officials say.

The off-road utility vehicle did not yield to the truck when crossing U.S. Route 201, police said.

The 57-year-old Lewiston man was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.

Speed appeared to be a factor in the crash that killed the 43-year-old man who was not wearing a helmet, the Maine Warden Service said.

Tow trucks were on scene to remove 2 commercial vehicles that crashed between Intervale Road and Gilbert Drive.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash Sunday evening.

Police received complaints about erratic driving before the crash Friday on Winthrop Street.

The parents of a teenage driver, believed to have struck the 55-year-old man Friday, reported his involvement to police over the weekend.

Icy conditions appear to have contributed to the accident.
