WINTHROP —  The Bailey Library will host Dave Patterson at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26, for the 11th annual Winthrop Community Read at 9 Bowdoin St.

The event, which is free and open to the public, focuses on Patterson’s coming-of-age novel “Soon the Light Will Be Perfect,” which explores a boy’s troubled summer in a rural town. The novel was published in 2019 by Hanover Square Press, according to a news release from the library.

Patterson is a graduate of St. Michael’s College and holds a Master of Science degree from the Bread Loaf School of English and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Southern Maine’s Stonecoast program. His work has appeared in Salon, Clare Literary Journal, and Blinders Literary Journal. He was a finalist for a 2019 Maine Literary Award. Patterson teaches high school English in Maine and at Southern New Hampshire University’s MFA program in Creative Writing.

The talk will explore small town America, adulthood, faith, love, and death.
