Folks who say government can’t do anything right didn’t see how smoothly and efficiently the hazardous waste clean-up day worked at the Readfield transfer station this past Sunday. Residents who wanted to dispose of items like old paint, solvent, TVs and pesticides presented their list of substances to a group of volunteers at the transfer station who processed our paperwork. We then proceeded to the collection area where four or five burly men unloaded our truck, sorted the items and took them into a large semi trailer. There was no line and no waiting because each resident had been given a time to bring their items. The whole process took less than eight minutes.
Many thanks to the transfer station staff, and Readfield town manager Eric Dyer, with support from the Kennebec Valley Council of Governments, as well as the volunteers who helped move some really nasty stuff to a place where it won’t cause anyone harm.
