EMBDEN — John Alden Stevens received the town’s Boston Post Cane July 23 from Embden Historical Society President Carol Dolan.
The ceremony was held at the Embden Town House with family and friends present.
Stevens was born in January 1931 in Skowhegan, the youngest child of Lester and Alice (Getchell) Stevens. He was brought up in Cornville and graduated from Skowhegan High School.
In 1960 he married Hilma Peary and went on to live and raise a family in Embden. They had sons Robert and Lester, and daughters Penny, Lisa and Lory.
Hilma died in 1989; Alden continues to live in Embden.
Alden Stevens has worked at the Snowflake Factory, Stapleford’s mill, Foss Building, and for Frank Bedard. He is a fit, avid fisherman who shared the fish with those that could no longer fish.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
