MADRID — High Peaks Alliance plans to offer a Family Trail Day, with trail building, outdoor education and an opportunity to meet like-minded families, at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19.

The event will be held at the Perham Stream Birding Trail, 554 East Madrid Road. It is for children 2 years old and older with their parents or grandparents.

The day will include some trail clearing, such as picking up sticks, moving small logs of the blowdown trees that have been felled, raking leaves and hiking the trail. The alliance can provide some children’s gloves, safety glasses and helmets, small rakes, clippers, and adult tools, according to a news release from Brent West, alliance executive director.

Following some trail work, a basic compass education will be held; all children will get their own compass to take home and lunch will be provided at noon with time to socialize.

People can meet alliance members at the trailhead wearing weather-appropriate clothes and shoes to hike in, and with water.

For more information, directions, and to sign up to get an accurate head count for lunch, contact West at 207-491-2750 or brent@highpeaksalliance.org, or visit highpeaksalliance.org.
