Darrell W. Nelson

NEWPORT – Darrell W. Nelson died unexpectedly Sunday Aug. 13, 2023 at a Pittsfield hospital. He was born in Dexter, Sept. 18, 1946, the son of Phillip and Muriel (Crocker) Nelson. He was a graduate of Dexter High School.

For more than 45 years he was a machinist-millwright at Pride Manufacturing Company in Guilford.

He was a member of Meridian Splendor Masonic Lodge of Newport and a member of Anah Shrine of Bangor. Darrell loved the outdoors, especially while fishing.

He is survived by his son, Scott Nelson and partner Melissa Cookson of Guilford, his daughter, Lynn Soucie and her husband Alan of Leeds; his brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Carmen Nelson of Newport; four grandchildren, Andrew Bennett, Dayna Bennett, Mathew Nelson, Ryan Graffam; four great-grandchildren, Bryson, Brady, Colton, Owen; his niece, Lori Dunivan and husband Jerry and family. He will also be remembered by his long-time partner, Jean Emery and her extended family.

He was predeceased by his father and mother Phillip and Muriel Nelson; and infant sister, Rita.

Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 18, at the Crocker Cemetery, St. Albans.

Cremation arrangements are entrusted to the care of Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 34 High St., Newport.
