Martin George Raymond Joseph Cloutier

AUGUSTA – Martin George Raymond Joseph Cloutier, 88, passed away on Aug. 14, 2023 after a brief illness. He was born on July 22, 1935, a son of Odilon and Emma (Roy) Cloutier.

Martin retired with 30 years of State service from the Department of Finance, Bureau of the Budget in Augusta. He worked for the Central Maine Credit Union while getting his education at the Gates Business School in Augusta. Martin was proud to have created St. Augustine Federal Credit Union, now known as KV Federal Credit Union and was the only remaining charter member. A veteran of the Korea Conflict, he was proud of having furthered his education through the GI bill.

A member of St. Augustine Church of St. Michael’s Parish, he was one of the first Eucharistic Ministers for the parish, as well as a “money counter” for many years. He was very involved in the Saint Augustine Restoration Project for over five years.

Martin was an avid skier and golfer and liked nothing better than getting a phone call from his buddy, Bill Buker, and making plans for the next golf/ski day – the highlight of his days for many a year.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years, Lucille Lachance Cloutier; his parents; nephew and Godchild, Raymond Cloutier; sisters-in-law Jeannette (Theriault) Cloutier of Augusta, and Judith Lachance of Las Vegas, Nev.

He is survived by his daughter, Michelle Cloutier; his brother, Paul Cloutier of Augusta; his nephew, Donald, nieces Anita and Claire and their families; his brother-in-law, Roland Lachance of Las Vegas, Nev.; and nephews Eric and Christopher and their families.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 23, at St. Augustine Church, 75 Northern Ave., Augusta, ME 04330. Burial will follow at Holy Family Cemetery in Augusta.
