FARMINGDALE — No one was injured after a pickup truck got wedged between a guardrail and tractor trailer on Interstate 95 Friday afternoon, police said.

The driver of the pickup truck had swerved toward the median in an effort to avoid the tractor trailer that was slowing down as traffic ahead came to a stop because of heavy rain and poor visibility, said Shannon Moss, spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

The tractor trailer had been driving northbound in the passing lane.

State police responded to the two-vehicle crash around 2:35 p.m. The incident took place near mile marker 105 on Interstate 95 North.

Traffic was backed up for miles as officials closed one lane to clear the scene. All lanes were closed for about 10 minutes as heavy equipment hauled both trucks away.

Heavy traffic was reported in downtown Gardiner as late as 4 p.m. as drivers sought alternate routes.

Over an inch of rain fell during afternoon storms, according to the National Weather Service.
