David Moses Marden

HANCOCK – David Moses Marden, 70, passed away Aug. 26, 2023, at his home in Hancock after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He is now reunited with his wife, Sigrid in heaven. David was born in Waterville, Maine on Aug. 1, 1953, to Harold D. and Catherine (Moses) Marden. David graduated from Lawrence High school in 1971. He attended the University of Maine in Orono, graduating with a degree in Civil Engineering. David worked as a surveyor for Penobscot County. He worked as an EMT and assisted in teaching EMT classes at the Eastern Maine Vo-Tech in Bangor. This is where he would meet his future wife, Sigrid. David and Sigrid were married on Dec. 29, 1979. They settled in Auburn. In 1985 they started a family by adopting Daniel from Colombia. In 1988 they moved to Bangor and then proceeded to adopt Leila, from Colombia, and Eric, from El Salvador.

David worked in the family business, Mardenā€™s. He was involved in all facets of the company as well as being the primary buyer for all the flooring. He retired from Mardenā€™s in 2015 to spend time with and to care for Sigrid.

David would put a smile on whomever he encountered with a joke he had recently heard. He loved working with his hands from woodworking, bowl turning, gardening, to working on his 1950 Dodge. He was a regular in his church and a staple as bass singer in the choir, an accomplished pilot, loved riding his Harley, mowing his own lawn, cooking huge meals, baking, sharing his recipes he found on American Test Kitchen, and could never quench his thirst for knowledge. He could talk with anyone about anything. He was a man that was larger than life and stayed humble to the end. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a loving grandfather, and a friend to anyone he met.

David is survived by his son, Daniel of Hampden and his daughter Zariah and her husband Tavian Sullivan of Turner, son Eric and his wife Kori and daughters, Annabella and Brynn of Bradley, and daughter Leila Herbest and her husband Thomas of Newburgh and their children Elizabeth, Arianna Ellyanna, and Cal El: sister, Martha Hutchins and her husband Brent of Albion with their three children and 13 grandchildren, brother John and his wife Jane of Belgrade and their two children and five grandchildren, brother Harold and his wife Lois and their two children and one granCondolences may be expressed at http://www.acadiacremation.comdchild.
