AUGUSTA – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Patrick Russell Welch, loving husband, devoted father, and cherished friend. Surrounded by family and with his loving wife by his side, he departed this world on Aug. 19, 2023, at the age of 78 in Augusta.

Born on Dec. 3, 1944, in Bath, he resided in Benton, and went on to honorably serve the United States Army from 1964 to 1966.

After his military service, Pat dedicated many years of hard work to Bill’s Oil and later joined the team at Irving Oil where he retired from, forming lasting bonds with his colleagues along the way. Patā€™s love for sports, especially golf and bowling, and his annual ā€œguys fishing weekendsā€ defined his leisure time.

Pat’s first marriage was to Florence Welch, who preceded him in death. He later found love and companionship with Ruth Welch (Pennacchi).

Pat was predeceased by his parents, Edward Sr., and Ola Hamm Welch, and brothers, Edward, Joseph, and Mike.

Pat leaves a legacy through his two daughters, Becky McPhail and partner Jeff Cote, and Rhonda Breard and husband Paul; his sister, Kathy Lingard; sister-in-law Marilyn Welch; and son-in-law, Kenny McPhail. His memory lives on through his three grandchildren, Kasey Larsen, Kory McPhail, and Kyle Breard, as well as four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service to celebrate Pat’s life will be held at St Francis Catholic Cemetery in Waterville on Friday, September 8, at 10 a.m., with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be sent to Augusta Health Rehab at 188 Eastern Ave, Augusta, Maine, to assist those in need.
