Mary J. (Roy) Tarbox
FARMINGDALE – Mary J. (Roy) Tarbox left this world peacefully on Sept. 5, 2023 after a period of declining health. She was 87.
She was born in Augusta on Sept. 25, 1935, the first child of Corinne (Dwyer) and George F. Roy and stepdaughter of Gaudioce Dallaire. She was educated in the Augusta school system, and a Cony High School graduate. She married Arthur Tarbox, Sr. “Red” in December 1959 and was the best “Mummie” kids ever had.
She was employed at Edwards Manufacturing in the accounting office from high school until the mill closed in 1989. She then worked at Key Bank until her retirement.
She had been a member of the Ladies of Ste. Anne, and a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church.
Among many other things, Mum will be remembered for her feistiness, spunk and stoicism, and running the roads with Mrs. Gagne, where the primary order of business was going out to lunch!
At this time, we want to acknowledge the outstanding care, support and compassion that was provided by the folks at the Maine Veterans’ Home, especially the staff on Eagles Landing – Delta and the team at Beacon Hospice. She could not have been cared for better.
She was predeceased by daughter, Cindy; husband, Arthur Sr. “Red”; daughter-in-law, Joanne Tarbox, son, Arthur Jr.; brothers George Henry Roy and Joseph Edward Roy, sister, Rose Curtis; and her dearest friend, Patricia (Cummings) Gagne.
She is survived, and will be deeply missed by her son, Bryan Tarbox and his partner Michelle Rankin of Gray, daughter, Dawna Myrick and her husband Rod of Farmingdale; grandsons Todd Tarbox of Vassalboro and Zachary Tarbox of Gray; brother, Raymond Roy of Farmington, sister-in-law, Mariette Roy; her bonus kids – all the little “Gs”, Nicky Wight (Brian) Karen Johnson (Tom), Kathy Alley (Amos) and Michael Gagne (Debbie); and numerous nieces and nephews; and step-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends may visit on Tuesday, Sept. 12 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 9 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Western Ave., Augusta. Burial and committal prayers will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Winthrop Street, Augusta.
