Patricia M. McLaughlin

MOUNT VERNON – On Sept. 11, 2023, in her 84th year, Patricia M. McLaughlin joined her beloved parents and her adored husband, Bob McLaughlin.

Pat was born on April 2, 1939 in Rockville, Conn., the daughter of Harold John Monahan and Frances (Szarek) Monahan. She was a graduate of Rockville High School in Vernon, Conn.

Pat and Bob were married on April 11, 1959 in Ludlow, Mass. They shared a wonderful, nearly inseparable, adventure filled life steeped in family love and happiness. They were together for 58 years before his passing in 2017. Pat worked at American aerospace manufacturer Pratt & Whitney for five years before moving to Maine. Once settled in Maine, Pat worked for three years with the Dodge Insurance Company based in Readfield, five years with the Maine State Library in Augusta, nine years in the front office of Maranacook Community School and then nine years as the administrative secretary to the superintendent of schools for Maranacook Area Schools/RSU 38.

During her time at Maranacook Community School, Pat garnered rave reviews from many students for her role as an Advisor in the school’s Advisor/Advisee system. She served as a friendly mentor who was deeply committed to the social, emotional, and academic growth of her student advisees.

Pat truly enjoyed spending time with family and dear friends. She also enjoyed reading for pleasure, cooking, and travel adventures that took her all over North America, as well as parts of the Caribbean, and Europe. She was also an avid nature lover who was keen to observe and share news of the varied wildlife she shared her waterfront property with.

Pat was a very loving and supportive mom. She was also the quintessential “Grammy” and “Great Grammy”. This is best illustrated by her remarkable run of winning the prestigious “Grammy of the Year” award every year from 1983 until her passing.

Thanks to her own good nature, kind friends and caring family, Pat’s cup of life was truly filled to the brim with love and happiness. We will all miss her warm hugs, twinkling eyes, and kind smiles.

Pat is survived by her daughter Brenda McLaughlin Flood and Brenda’s husband Bruce, her son John Linley McLaughlin and John’s wife Kari Mullen-McLaughlin; three granddaughters, Rachel Lee McLaughlin, Chelsea Paige McLaughlin, Hannah Rain McLaughlin; two great grandsons Christian Theron McLaughlin and Austin; sister Geraldine M. Proof of Barre, Vt.; and two nieces and two nephews of Vermont.

Pat’s life will be celebrated with a graveside committal service at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27 in the committal shelter at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Blue Star Ave., Augusta.
