David Earl McLean

EDGEWATER, Fla. – David Earl McLean of Edgewater, Fla., passed away on Aug. 6, 2023, at the age of 70.

He was born on June 26, 1953 in Augusta and spent the majority of his life in central Maine. David was drafted to the Army in 1970 and received a National Defense Service Medal for his expertise in grenades, M14s, and M16s. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1973. He then worked at the Department of Veterans Affairs in Augusta for 30 years before retiring.

David believed in the American flag and honored his county, never missed a Red Sox game and was a Harley-Davidson owner/rider. David and his fun-loving sense of humor were the life of the party wherever he went, and he was the type of person who “never met a stranger”. His eyes sparkled when he laughed. He will be missed dearly by his friends and family.

David is survived by his wife, Natalie McLean of Edgewater Fla.; his beloved children, Erica and Daniel McLean and Daniel’s wife, Jennifer; three grandchildren, Devon Thomas and Mia McLean and Helen McLean. He is also survived by five bonus children whom he had the pleasure of raising, Dane, Marlayna, and Elan Seago and Johnny, and Chris Raio.

David was predeceased by his mother and stepfather, Mildred and Jimmy Breton; brothers Ralph and John McLean, sister, Helen Holt; and triplet sons, Jonathan, David, and Eric McLean.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Sept. 22 in Section H, Row 12 of the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 143 Blue Star Ave. in Augusta.
