Dolores L Mason

HALLOWELL – Dolores L Mason, 95, died peacefully on Monday, Sept. 11, 2023 at the Woodlands of Hallowell following a long journey with dementia. She was born in Augusta on July 14, 1928, the daughter of the late Arthur I. Lemieux and Odile M. (Castonguay) Lemieux Coady.

Mrs. Mason was a 1946 graduate of Cony High School and was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church.

“Del” was a devoted wife and mother. While her family was growing up, she maintained a large garden, canning and pickling as well as making the kids clothing. She learned to knit beautiful sweaters, tole paint and created many beautiful wedding and birthday cakes. After the kids were grown she realized her dream of working in the Augusta School Department as a school secretary at Hussey and Lincoln schools for many years. Following her retirement she volunteered to read to the children in the St. Michael’s school library in Augusta. It was not uncommon to have adults excitedly approach her and tell her that they remembered her from when they were children.

Del was predeceased by her parents; husband Clyde E. Mason; her brother Roger Lemieux, sister Arline Rowling and daughter-in-law Cathleen Mason. She is survived by her son John and wife Pam of Monmouth, two daughters Paula Nicholas and her husband Michael of Chelsea and Jane McCarthy and her husband Patrick of Hollis Center. Dolores and Clyde also had a son, Steven In addition, she is survived by a brother, Conrad Lemieux of South Portland; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. .

Relatives and friends may visit on Monday, Sept; 25 from 9:00-10:30 a.m. at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Western Avenue in Augusta. Burial and committal prayers will follow at 1 p.m. at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Dr., Augusta.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Woodlands of Hallowell and Androscoggin Hospice for their loving care of our mother as well as the kindness and compassion shared with the family. You are all amazing!
