Jarrett Henault passed for 277 yards and two touchdowns and added 96 yards and a touchdown on the ground, powering the unbeaten University of New England football team to its third straight win, 31-10 over Gallaudet in Washington, D.C.
UNE’s AJ DeFilio had six catches for 92 yards and a touchdown. Damien Jones scored on a 5-yard run in the first quarter.
Zion Ortiz put Gallaudet on the board first with a 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Jonathon Waterman made a 43-yard field goal in the second.
BOWDOIN 26, HAMILTON 12: Andrew Boel threw for 347 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Polar Bears to a season-opening victory over the Colonels in Clinton, New York.
Andre Eden led Bowdoin with 66 yards rushing. Jotham Casey drilled field goals of 20 and 26 yards in the second quarter.
Luke Kurzum had two passing touchdowns for Hamilton and Matt Banbury ran for 99 yards.
HUSSON 31, ALFRED STATE 13: Elijah Garnett ran for 126 yards and two touchdowns, leading the Eagles (2-1) past the Pioneers (1-2) in Alfred, New York.
Nic Visser passed for 228 yards, including a touchdown to Ja’Quan Myles, who finished with six receptions for 145 yards. Visser and Jed Lober each had a rushing touchdown.
Josh Graham and Jake Palmer each scored on a 2-yard run for Alfred State.
WILLIAMS 25, COLBY 22: Owen McHugh and Mario Fischetti each ran for a score in the third quarter as the Ephs erased a halftime deficit and pulled away for a season-opening win in Williamstown, Mass.
Locksley Burke ran it in from a yard out and Matt McHugh caught an 18-yard touchdown from Miles Drake to give Colby a 14-0 lead in the second quarter. Brendan Sawyer added an 8-yard rushing touchdown late in the game.
McHugh finished with 138 yards passing and 77 rushing. Fischetti ran for 119 yards.
(1) GEORGIA 24, SOUTH CAROLINA 14: Carson Beck passed for 269 yards, Daijun Edwards, Dillon Bell and Cash Jones ran for second-half touchdowns, and the Bulldogs (3-0, 1-0 SEC) rallied from 11 points down to beat the Gamecocks (1-2, 0-1) in Athens, Georgia.
(3) FLORIDA STATE 31, BOSTON COLLEGE 29: DJ Lundy intercepted a pass to set up his own 1-yard touchdown run, and the Seminoles (3-0, 1-0 ACC) survived a late rally by the Eagles (1-2, 0-1) in Boston.
Boston College set a school record for penalties, missed an extra point, went for 2 points after another touchdown and failed, and opted not to kick a field goal from the Seminoles 5 when trailing by 15 points early in the fourth quarter. But the Eagles still trailed by only two points with the ball in the final three minutes before Kalen DeLoach sacked Thomas Castellanos on third down to stall BC’s last possession.
The Eagles would have gotten the ball back after stopping Florida State on third down, but they were called for a face mask – their 18th penalty of the game.
(6) OHIO STATE 63, WESTERN KENTUCKY 10: Kyle McCord threw for 318 yards and three touchdowns, and the Buckeyes (3-0) used a 35-point second quarter to rout the Hilltoppers (2-1) in Columbus, Ohio.
(7) PENN STATE 30, ILLINOIS 13: Cam Miller, Abdul Carter, Daequan Dixon and Johnny Hardy had interceptions and the Nittany Lions (3-0, 1-0 Big Ten) took advantage of five turnovers to beat the Illini (1-2, 0-1) in Champaign, Illinois.
(8) WASHINGTON 41, MICHIGAN STATE 7: Michael Penix Jr. threw for 473 yards and four touchdowns, including three to Jack Westover, as the visiting Huskies (3-0) routed the Spartans (2-1) in Michigan State’s first game without suspended coach Mel Tucker.
The Huskies totaled 713 yards of offense, which is the most ever given up by the Spartans, topping the previous high of 666 yards by Nebraska in 1995.
(9) NOTRE DAME 41, CENTRAL MICHIGAN 17: Sam Hartman threw three touchdown passes to move into seventh place on major college football’s career list, and the Fighting Irish (4-0) beat the Chippewas (1-2) in South Bend, Indiana.
Hartman now has 123 career touchdown passes. He passed Aaron Murray of Georgia and Ty Detmer of BYU and is tied with Oklahoma’s Landry Jones at No. 7 all-time.
(10) ALABAMA 17, SOUTH FLORIDA 3: Roydell Williams rushed for 129 yards and a touchdown, and third-string quarterback Ty Simpson added a clinching touchdown in the final minute as the Crimson Tide (2-1) fought off the Bulls (1-2) in Tampa, Florida.
(12) UTAH 31, WEBER STATE 7: Nate Johnson threw for 193 yards and a touchdown and ran for another score in his first start, helping the Utes (3-0) beat the Wildcats (2-1) in Salt Lake City.
(14) LSU 41, MISSISSIPPI STATE 14: Malik Nabers set career highs with 13 catches for 239 yards and scored two touchdowns, Jayden Daniels ran for two scores, and the Tigers (2-1, 1-0 SEC) routed the Bulldogs (2-1, 0-1) in Starkville, Mississippi.
MISSOURI 30, (15) KANSAS STATE 27: Harrison Mevis kicked a 61-yard field goal with no time remaining, lifting the Tigers (3-0) to a come-from-behind victory over the Wildcats (2-1) in a nonconference showdown of former Big 12 rivals at Columbia, Missouri.
Brady Cook finished with 356 yards passing and two touchdowns for the Tigers despite hobbling around on a sore leg.
(16) OREGON STATE 26, SAN DIEGO STATE 9: DJ Uiagalelei passed for 284 yards and a touchdown and also ran for a touchdown for the third consecutive game, and the Beavers (3-0) had seven sacks in a win over the Aztecs (2-2) in Corvallis, Oregon.
(19) OKLAHOMA 66, TULSA 17: Dillon Gabriel threw for 421 yards and five touchdowns, receiver Nic Anderson scored three times, and the Sooners (3-0) routed the Golden Hurricane (2-1) in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
(20) NORTH CAROLINA 31, MINNESOTA 13: Drake Maye threw for a season-high 414 yards to go with two touchdowns, Nate McCollum flirted with a single-game UNC receiving record, and the Tar Heels (3-0) beat the Golden Gophers (2-1) in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
McCollum, in his first year at UNC after transferring from Georgia Tech, had 15 receptions and 165 yards. He was one catch shy of tying the Tar Heels’ single-game record.
(21) DUKE 38, NORTHWESTERN 14: Riley Leonard ran for two touchdowns and threw for 219 yards to lead the Blue Devils (3-0) past the Wildcats (1-2) in Durham, North Carolina.
(23) WASHINGTON STATE 64, NORTHERN COLORADO 21: Cameron Ward passed for 327 yards and accounted for five first-half touchdowns, and the Cougars (3-0) breezed past the Bears (0-3) in Pullman, Washington.
(24) UCLA 59, NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL 7: Dante Moore passed for 182 yards and two touchdowns, Collin Schlee ran for a pair of scores, and the Bruins (3-0) scored on their first seven drives against the Eagles (2-1) in Pasadena, California.
(25) IOWA 41, WESTERN MICHIGAN 10: Cade McNamara threw for two touchdowns and freshman Kamari Moulton scored twice after halftime in his debut, helping the Hawkeyes (3-0) defeat the Broncos (1-2) in Iowa City, Iowa.
