Clifford H. Allen

CANAAN – It is with very heavy hearts that we have experienced the sudden passing of our husband, father, grandfather, Clifford H. Allen, 70, of Canaan, on Sept. 9, 2023.

He was born Nov. 7, 1952, in Pittsfield. Cliff was known for his boisterous laugh and big smile that will forever be missed. Hanging by the pool with a PBR in hand and classic country music on the radio was his favorite past time with his family and friends. If you needed a carpet laid, field bush hogged, or just an extra hand, he was there to help anyone that asked.

Cliff is survived by his wife, Rhonda; daughter, Teri True and her husband Seth, son, Bryan Allen and his wife Amber, stepson, David Bowman and his wife Tami, stepson, Nick Bowman and his wife Samantha; grandchildren, Paige, Samantha, Jorgia, Abbey, Ella, Emily, Ace, Isabelle, Charlotte, and Grace; great-grandchildren, Brantley, Callie, Bryleigh, Aniya, Talia, and Cohen; sisters Eva Charity and Alice Ouellette, stepsister, Coris-Ann Richards, brother-in-law, Greg Sirois and wife Susan; nieces, nephews; cousins; and some very close friends Richie Guilford, Dale Burrill, Ray Small, and Norman Hart.

Cliff graduated from MCI in Pittsfield, in 1971. He worked at Craig’s Hardware in Pittsfield for many years before being hired at Sappi Papermill in Skowhegan, where he retired after about 35 years. Cliff was a volunteer firefighter for Canaan Fire for about 40 years and fire chief there from 1996-2000. Cliff was a past member of the Knights of Columbus.

Cliff has been an active member of the Carrabassett Masonic Lodge #161 since 1979, he was a Past Master and was the secretary for 30-plus years. He was also a Lifetime Elks Club member.

Graveside service will be on Sunday Sept. 24 at Fairview Cemetery on Route 23 (Hartland Road) in Canaan, at 10:30 a.m., with a Celebration of Life reception immediately following at the Masonic Hall on Oak Pond Road, Canaan.
