WINTHROP— An Augusta woman was killed when her car struck a truck on U.S. Route 202 Thursday morning.
Katherine Spiller, 35, of Augusta, was driving a 2007 Ford Focus westbound on U.S. Route 202 just after 9 a.m. Thursday when she crossed the centerline, striking an eastbound 1989 International farm truck head-on, according to a press release from Winthrop Police.
The truck was driven by Cameron Proctor, 24, of Monmouth.
Spiller died at the scene, according to police. Proctor was treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries and was not taken to the hospital by ambulance.
As of 4 p.m. Thursday the busy road remained closed while police investigated the crash. The crash is being reconstructed by Maine State Police.
Monmouth Police Officer Zack Roy came across the crash while eastbound on Route 202, near Hoyt Chiropractic and Fast Eddie’s restaurant.
Traffic was detoured around the site, using Old Lewiston Road, according to New England 511, a website that tracks road conditions. Motorists were warned to expect delays.
Winthrop Police were assisted by Monmouth Police and state police, firefighters from Winthrop and Monmouth, Winthrop EMS, Winthrop Public Works and Maine Department of Environmental Protection.
