Mary Alice Milner Deming

MANCHESTER – Mary Alice Milner Deming, 99, of Manchester, passed away on Sept. 13, 2023. She was born on Dec. 19, 1923, in Rochdale, Mass.

Always a lover of music, she sang and played various instruments such as the cello, accordion, and the piano.

Mary taught grade school at King Street School in Danbury, and then went on to teach Home Economics at Rogers Park Jr. High for a full career, retiring in 1984. She closed her teaching with a grand flourish: a year in Widnes, a small town outside Liverpool, England.

Mary was a member of the First Congregational Church in Danbury and Brookfield Congregational Church. Her unwavering faith provided her with strength and comfort throughout her life.

Mary is survived by her children Betsy, Dave, Larry, and Chris, their spouses; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bob Deming.

Services will be held Oct. 9, at 3 p.m., East Winthrop Baptist Church, in E. Winthrop; Oct. 15 at 2 p.m., Brookfield Congregational Church, in Brookfield, Conn.; Summer 2024, on Frye Island.
