The Auburn Public Library plans to hold events as part of College & Career Week 2023, with events on Oct. 2, 3 and 5 at the 49 Spring St. library.

The week will kick off with College Night for Teens & Parents from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2. Designed to provide information early in the college process to teens and their parents, this event will feature representatives from area colleges and universities, according to a news release from Donna Wallace at the library.

Colleges represented will be Central Maine Community College, College of the Atlantic, Husson University, Maine College of Art & Design, Maine Maritime Academy, Thomas College, University of Maine Farmington, University of Maine Orono, and University of Southern Maine. Tyler Provencher of Job Corps (Maine) will also be on hand during the evening.

The evening will begin at 4:30 p.m. with a panel discussion facilitated by Jessica Whittier of the Finance Authority of Maine. Whether a teen is in middle school, just starting high school or a senior applying for college, it is hoped this evening will start them thinking about their future and/or provide answers to some of the many questions which arise as they begin talking about and looking at colleges.

Topics for discussion will include taking appropriate courses in middle and high school, thinking ahead about career areas, costs of college (FAFSA, FAFSA Forecaster), types of colleges and degrees, and the application process and Common Application. If time permits, this will be followed by a brief Q&A session.

The evening will conclude with a mini college fair, whereby each admissions representative will be available with more specific information about their schools and programs.
