FARMINGTON — Alexander Creznic announced his resignation Tuesday from the Regional School Unit 9 board of directors, citing personal situations that conflict with his duties.

“This wasn’t an easy decision to make,” Creznic said. “I wanted to say that I’m grateful for the opportunity that I’ve had so far to be a member of the board, and for the patience, understanding and amicability of everybody here.”

He was elected in March 2022 to a three-year term.

Selectmen will decide whether to hold a special election or appoint someone to the position until the next election.

During his time on the board, Creznic was known for being vocal on a number of issues and concerns. During the discussions of the controversial gender identity poster that was posted in the hallway windows of the guidance offices of Mt. Blue middle and high schools in October of last year, Creznic spoke on behalf of parents with children who felt unsafe expressing their views in school and sought a compromise with the poster.

He, along with former Director Charles Hinds of New Vineyard, voted against keeping the poster.

In April of this year, Creznic shared concerns over RSU 9 potentially barring students from wearing clothing that featured the words of the Second Amendment.

Superintendent Christian Elkington clarified that only clothing depicting firearms were prohibited, leading to a clash of opinions between Creznic and former Director J. Wayne Kinney of Farmington during the meeting.
