As a proud Hallowell resident, I believe Maureen AuCoin is our best choice for mayor. In her seven-year city council tenure, Maureen has truly walked the walk on fiscal prudence. She chaired the finance committee for the past three years, is chairing a housing committee to increase affordable housing, and has supported businesses through pressing economic challenges. She understands the complex fiscal landscape facing Hallowell and has a vision for managing our mil rate and using tax-increment financing to maximize the use of our hard-earned tax dollars. Maureen’s goals to alleviate property tax burdens by seeking alternate revenue streams and hiring an economic development director are the innovative ideas we need from our mayor.

Maureen’s service on multiple committees, including the Comprehensive Planning, Hallowell Personnel and Policy, and Ordinance Rewrite, not to mention her stewardship during the Water Street reconstruction project, underscores her deep knowledge and expertise. In addition, her groundbreaking roles as the city’s first female code enforcement officer, assessor, and interim city manager showcase her unique blend of expertise and drive.

Maureen’s passion for Hallowell shines through in everything she does. She understands that Hallowell isn’t just a city — it’s a tight-knit community that is facing new threats not just from the challenging economy, but also the shifting social landscape.

More than anything, Maureen is all about a thriving Hallowell: collaborating with neighboring towns and driving economic development without taxing us dry.
