Jean Grace Doughty

WINTHROP – Leaving an incredible lifetime of love, family, and fun memories, Jean Grace Doughty, 95, died peacefully Monday, Sept. 18, 2023, at the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta.

Jean was born May 4, 1928, in Limington, the daughter of Clayton M. and Marion (Childs) Grace. She graduated in a class of five from Limington Academy in 1946 and attended beauty school the following year. She met her future husband, Eric Doughty, on a blind date; they were married for a very loving and memorable 55 years.

Jean was an integral part of the family campground in Limington for a number of years. She loved spending time outdoors and meeting the many campers. She had many talents such as tole painting, crafting, and basket weaving. Her activities included square dancing, fun gatherings with friends, sending cards and notes, and staying caught up on her laptop.

Always up for a new adventure, Jean just loved to be with family and friends. Her favorite places were the family lakeside camp in Limington, the Childs family camp on Great Moose Pond, and the oceanside campsite in Harpswell. She loved sitting up late and poking a campfire whenever possible.

Jean was an active and beloved member of the Winthrop Congregational Church UCC for over 60 years. She served on many committees including fish chowder luncheons and church fairs.

Jean loved life. She was genuine, loving, and full of fun. She maintained many lifelong friendships and readily made new friends. She was so easily loved by so many.

Jean is deeply missed by her four children, Jerry (Susan) Doughty of Winthrop, Dennis (Debby) Doughty of Limington, Diane (Steve) Wilson of Hollis, and Erica (George Merrill) Doughty of Limington; her sister, Lucille (Mark) Eastman of Limington; her nine grandchildren, Nate (Beth) Doughty, Brian Doughty, Jennah (Sam) Iggulden, Murphy (Saisie Moore) Doughty, Vicky (Jason) Russell, Mitchell (Heather) Wilson, Ben (Amber) Wilson, Lacey (Justin Liudvinaitis) Donle, and Tristan (Kaitlin) Donle; two step-grandchildren, Rebecca and Jacob (Sarah) Merrill; 23 great-grandchildren; many dear cousins; much loved nieces and nephews; and her AFS exchange student “son,” Juan Cumplido of Spain.

Jean was predeceased by her husband, Eric; her brother, Clayton (Louise) Grace Jr. and her sister, Ann (David) Dixon.
