WAYNE – Shelley Reed, 73, of Wayne, passed away unexpectedly on Sept. 17, 2023 while in Taipei City, Taiwan visiting her son, Derek, his wife, Ivy and granddaughter, Mio.

Shelley was born in Lewiston to Gerald and Helen Thompson Reed. She attended Lewiston schools and then received her B.S. degree in Education and M.S. degree in Education Counselor from the University of Maine.

She was passionate about the education of every Maine child. From schoolteacher to counselor in Lewiston and Auburn, she moved to state positions as Education Specialist at the Maine Department of Education and Commissioner/Past Chair of the Maine Charter School Commission.

Shelley was also President at Maine Alliance of Public Charter Schools, a board member of several education organizations, a member of the Koussinoc Chapter DAR, and First Church of Christ Scientist.

She loved gardening, kayaking, corn hole, theater, music and being a member of the CODA chorus. There was always a dog in her life.

Shelley is survived by her husband, David Twitchell, his sons Brian, Jeremy and Elias: her sons Derek Jacob and his family; Peter Dutile and his family; daughter, Kathryn “Katy” Dutile and her family; sister, Delinda “Dee” Browning, her son, Ty Browning and his family; sister, Jo-Ellen Reed and her husband.

Celebration of Life: Wayne Community Church, 22 Old Winthrop Rd. in Wayne, Oct. 14, at 10 a.m. with reception to follow.
