Foster Erwin Brooks Jr.
HARTLAND – Foster Erwin Brooks Jr., 83, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Oct. 6, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.
Foster was born March 17, 1940, the son of the Foster Erwin and Kathleen (Parker) Brooks Sr. He was educated in Hartland and Pittsfield schools and graduated from M.C.I. in 1959. On August 13, 1960, Foster married his neighborhood sweetheart Jacqueline Mae (Pelkie) Brooks and together they raised their family in Hartland.
After graduating from M.C.I. and working while in school at the A&P Supermarket, Foster was employed at Wrights Emporium in Pittsfield as a meat cutter and delivered meat throughout central Maine. In 1969 Foster began work as an insurance agent for Prudential Insurance. He was a member of the JAYCEES of Pittsfield and enjoyed his service there. He was also employed at Faloon’s Construction, Joseph Herman Shoes in Pittsfield, HP Hoods in Newport and then worked for 23 years at Redington Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan as a Boiler technician and maintenance professional.
Dementia is a disease that took his ability to remember and even walk but God blessed him with legs that walked him to school and work, hands that built his home and his homes of his three sons, countless projects at church, eyes that studied the Bible and taught Sunday School and traveled to N.B.B.I. for over 30 years with teenagers so they could learn about Jesus. Foster was a member of the Hartland First Baptist Church for over 50 years and served in most every position and office at the church.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jacqueline Brooks; children, Kevin Brooks and wife Tammi, Dawn Butler and husband Randy, Richard Brooks and wife Kim, Mark Brooks and wife Sarah; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Phyllis Braley and husband Tom, Danny Brooks, and Wendy Brooks, sister-in-law, Ruth Tibbetts, sister-in-law, Jeanne Brooks; brother-in-law, David Verzoni; and many special nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, Foster and Kathleen; and his siblings: Larry Tibbetts, Sherwood Brooks, Dale Brooks, and Deborah Verzoni.
Foster’s favorite verse was Matthew 6:33: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” NKJV
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 12, 2023, at the Hartland Baptist Church with Pastor Kevin Brooks officiating. A family committal will be held next spring at the Fuller Corner Cemetery in Hartland.
