Award-winning journalist and mystery writer Gerry Boyle will will discuss his fascination with murder and mayhem in Maine and the reasons why he thinks the state is the perfect stage for crime fiction at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25, at the Bailey Public Library in Winthrop.
Having just released the 13th book in his bestselling Jack McMorrow series, “Robbed Blind,” Boyle will read and discuss the book in his talk. The previous McMorrow novel, “Random Act” was awarded the 2020 Maine Literary Award for crime fiction, the second time a McMorrow novel has been chosen for that honor. Boyle is also the author of the Brandon Blake mystery series, featuring a young Portland police officer.
Like many crime novelists, Gerry Boyle began his writing career in newspapers. After attending Colby College, he began his career in Rumford. After a few months he moved on to the Morning Sentinel in Waterville, where editors gave him a thrice-weekly column. He wrote about the stuff he saw in police stations, courtrooms, and in the towns and cities of Maine. His first novel “Deadline” was published in 1993.
