Chester James Bither

TROY – Chester James Bither, 71 died September 19, 2023, at St. Joseph’s Hospital from complications of a recent fall. He was born Dec. 7, 1951, in Bangor, a son of Merle and Maxine (Bates) Bither Sr. After moving with his family to Thorndike he attended Mt View High School, class of 1971.

After High School Chet spent his career working in agriculture – Logging/Forestry Management and Farming at the Ward Farm alongside of his Father. Chet was known for his speed and it took two skidders to keep up with the number of trees he felled, teaching his nephew Dave along the way.

Chet was always a quiet person but in his later years he truly enjoyed his family. Chet enjoyed his monthly phone calls to family members in Houlton and catching up on the latest news. He was always ready with a joke or prank to brighten your day. Chet loved to cook and share his creations with others, especially his soups. He made a mean chili, the hotter the better. He never passed up an invitation from his nephew Dave, for a backyard BBQ with his hot wings. When his great niece Katie needed someone to dog sit her pup Lucy, Chet volunteered and created a wonderful bond with her. Sitting with Lucy helped to comfort Chet after his loss of his beloved fur companion Sheeba of nineteen years.

Chet is survived by his sister Janet Bither, Neice Jeri Roberts and husband Bill Roberts of Jackson, Neice Pam Bither of Westbrook, Nephew David Bither Jr. and partner Sheree of Troy, Neice Angie Bither of Newport, Neice Tracy Barneschi and husband Jon of Lewiston, Nephew Allen Reed and his wife Hannah of Temple, and countless great nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, October 22, at Linneus Cemetery. Arrangements by Donald Dunn Funeral Home, Houlton.
