The Maine Franco-American Genealogical Society plans to hold its fall general meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, in the Androscoggin Community Room of the Auburn Public Library, 49 Spring St.

After the brief business meeting and light refreshments, guest speaker David Chittim, Androscoggin Historical Society president, will present an overview of recent changes at the Androscoggin Historical Society and explore some of the resources it has available for genealogical research.
The event is free, and the public is welcome to attend both the business meeting and Chittim’s 11 a.m. presentation.
Chittim, a retired engineer and land surveyor, has served on the AHS Board as treasurer for nine years and as president for the past two, guiding it through the transition from its cloistered existence on the third floor of the County Building in Auburn to a new, accessible home in the heart of Lewiston, according to a news release from Connie Hitchcock, recording secretary of the Maine Franco-American Genealogical Society.
Although not yet fully open to the public, the new museum/library/research facility is accessible by appointment. The society hopes to be open and fully operational in time to celebrate its 100th anniversary before the end of the year.
