WILTON — A new dental office has made its way to Wilton. Located at 1460 Main Street in East Wilton, Western Mountain Dentistry is looking to make itself a staple for the community.

Western Mountain Dentistry opened its door on Monday, Oct. 2, and is helmed by Dr. Nicholas Camic. Born in Portland and raised in Winslow, Camic’s trajectory as a dentist stems from his family history in healthcare, with both his mother and sister working as registered nurses.

“I thought about being a physician and I shadowed both professions,” Camic said in a phone interview with The Franklin Journal. “Ultimately, I decided that dentistry felt like the best fit for me.”

Camic graduated Winslow High School in 2010 and came to the University of Maine at Farmington, where he graduated in 2014. While at Farmington, Camic met his future wife, Sarah. The two were married in 2018 and share two children together. Camic even has his wife working in the office with him as office manager for Western Mountain Dentistry.

After graduating from UMF, Camic attended University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine, where he graduated in 2018. He stayed at UConn to pursue his advanced education in general dentistry residency, before finally finishing school in 2019, but according to Camic, he is very passionate about staying on top of his knowledge of the field and continuing his education.

Camic returned to Maine with his wife and made their home in Lewiston. He worked in Auburn at the Center for Advanced Dentistry, but decided to strike out on his own and make a new home in Wilton, citing his familiarity with the area as one of the driving factors. “I really like the area,” he said.

Camic now resides in Turner with his wife and two children, who he says are his biggest priority. “Family is my number one thing,” he said. “I like to spend time with my family.”

Camic’s two children are three and 18 months, which keeps him busy when he isn’t at the office. “I love them,” Camic said. “They’re busy, but that’s what kids are, kids are busy.”

When he isn’t preoccupied by work or his family, Camic is all about staying active, whether it’s hiking, skiing or martial arts. He is most passionate about Brazilian jiu jitsu.

“Since early childhood,” he said, “I’ve had an interest in martial arts. You know, movies, and I did karate. When I was going to UMF, I started training and just fell in love with it.” Camic believes he started some time in 2011, which puts him at 12 years of practicing Brazilian jiu jitsu.

With his new practice, Camic says he is in for the long haul. He wants to grow and expand his business, even with Wilson Stream Family Dentistry right across the street. Camic maintains there is no rivalry between the two.

“Dr. Thomas Pastor is a nice man,” Camic said. “It’s not a rivalry thing. If anything, its a ‘help each other out’ kind of thing.”
