Rebecca J. Butterfield

LEWISTON – Rebecca J. Butterfield, 83, born on Feb. 15, 1940, in Winthrop, passed away at 7:11 a.m., Oct.17, 2023, at her daughter’s home surrounded by her family that loved her so much. She had endured a brief battle of Lung Cancer.

The daughter of Ernest R. Bowler Sr. and Alice (Campbell) Bowler, Rebecca attended school in Winthrop where she grew up. Rebecca married the love of her life, George Butterfield Sr., on April 26, 1957, in Winthrop. For a brief time she worked for Hillcrest Foods. She decided to be a homemaker for the rest of her life where she spent time with her children and watching them grow up and start their own family. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren especially. Her face would always light up when they were around her. She loved hearing “I luv you.”

She enjoyed the ocean at Reid State Park, going shopping and lawn sales. Her favorite was her flower garden in the spring that she always cherished by having different bird feeders, just to watch the many types of birds that would come around. Mom also loved her furry babies and could not get enough from loving them.

Rebecca is survived by her children, her daughter Carmen Butterfield and her fiancé Paul Tart of Lisbon, her son Wayne Butterfield Sr. and his wife Joy of Leeds, and daughter Tammy Wilson and her husband James of Lewiston; her brother Ernest Bowler Jr. and his wife Florence of Monmouth, and her sister Martha Henderson of Litchfield; 16 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. She was very close to her great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Jordan, Gemma, Calvin, Parker, and Kaylie because she lived with her daughter Tammy, and she got to see them every day. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, sister Nancy Scott; son George Butterfield Jr.; and grandson Shawn Boies.
