As a fifth-year at-large member of the Augusta Board of Education, I was thrilled when Susan Parks decided to run for the open Ward 2 School Board seat. Her experience as a teacher, educational consultant and educational advocate runs the gamut from early childhood to adult education and covers such topics as Spanish, English for speakers of other languages (ESOL), homeless education, special education and college prep.

I’ve known Susan for several years. We don’t naturally communicate or process information the same way. But Susan has always worked to make sure that we each understand what the other is saying. She has high expectations of people who work in education, including School Board members, but is adept at meeting people where they are.

I urge Ward 2 voters to send Susan to the Augusta School Board where I know she will be an insightful and productive member.
