MONMOUTH — A woman died Thursday afternoon when her car hit a tree near the intersection of U.S. Route 202 and Ouellette Lane in Monmouth.
The Monmouth Fire and Police departments responded to the crash, along with the town’s emergency medical services team.
Medical responders at first called a LifeFlight of Maine helicopter to the scene, but canceled the request after the fatality was confirmed.
“We are actively involved with the crash right now,” fire Chief Dan Roy said. “The crash happened at the same time when our department was called to Winthrop for a structure fire, so we had to separate our resources.”
At the scene Thursday, officials surrounded the vehicle, which was in a grassy ditch to the side of the pavement, while a tow truck pulled it out.
Further information, including the woman’s identity, was not released Thursday because officials were still investigating the crash.
