Leona H “Loni” Farley

GARDINER – Leona H. “Loni” Farley, 74, daughter, sister, and aunt went to be with her heavenly father on Monday, Oct. 16, 2023, at Maine General Rehabilitation and Long-Term Care – Glenridge after a long illness surrounded by her sister and niece.

Loni was born on Sept. 28, 1949, in Passau, Bavaria, West Germany, traveled to Texas where her father was stationed in the army until she settled in Gardiner, Maine.

Loni volunteered as a candy striper for the old Gardiner General Hospital, as well as the Gardiner Library and other organizations. Loni graduated in 1968 from Gardiner Area High School. She continued her education in a business school in Downtown Augusta, Maine. Leona worked for the Maine State Department of Taxation for more than 25 years, before retirement.

Loni belonged to the First Baptist Church in Gardiner. Loni sang in the choir as well as assisting with church accounting. Loni loved beautiful music, and had a passion for sewing and loved to do a lot of many types of needle work. She would visit with her parents at their camp in Whitefield and watch the birds with her mother.

Leona was a faithful person with a loving, warm heart that took care of her family.

Leona was predeceased by her loving parents, Olge H. and Lawrence P. Farley Sr. of Gardiner, Maine, brother-in-law Robert H. Cunningham of Chelsea, Maine, and her aunt Christa O’Malia of Texas.

She is survived by her two siblings, sister Sylvia Cunningham of Chelsea, Maine, and brother Lawrence P. Farley Jr. and his wife, Kelley J. Farley of Gardiner, Maine.

She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Philip Cunningham and wife, Kathy of Chelsea, Maine, Shannon Cunningham of Chelsea, Maine, Aaron M. Farley of Gardiner, Angela M. Bronn and her husband Raymond A. Bronn IV of West Gardiner, Maine, Samuel P. Farley of Gardiner, Maine, Daniel J. Farley of Gardiner, Maine.

Her great-nephews and nieces Steven Cunninham Sr. and fiancé Toni Fletcher of Richmond, Maine, Braydon Garland of Chelsea. Maine, and Bennet Raymond Bronn of West Gardiner, Maine, as well as great- great nephew Steven Cunningham Jr. of Richmond, Maine, and James Paul of Richmond, Maine, as well as her uncle Fritzi Stadler and family in West Germany.

Per family’s request there will be no visiting service or funeral services. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 11, at 9 a.m., at Oak Grove Cemetery, 38 Plummer Street, Gardiner.
