Lois “Trudy” Hildreth (Phelps) Tash

LOVELAND, Colo. – Lois “Trudy” Hildreth (Phelps) Tash, 89, of Loveland, Colo., previously Dedham, Maine, passed away at Lemay Avenue Health and Rehab Facility in Fort Collins, Colo. on Oct. 26, 2023 with her children at her side. Lois was born in Mexico, Maine, the youngest daughter of the late Robert B. and Marion E. (Grannell) Phelps.

Following her graduation from Waterville High School, she was accepted into Central Maine General’s (CMMC) nursing program where she graduated as a registered nurse. With her gentle, caring and understanding manner, she quickly became a valued and respected nurse at Waterville’s Thayer Hospital, where she soon met the one and only love of her life, husband Donald. Forever the loyal spouse, Trudy supported Donald in his telephone company career that brought them from Waterville to Ellsworth, Brewer (where she later continued her dedication to patient care as a charge nurse at Bangor Westgate Manor and Brewer Convalescent Center) and Auburn. Lois relished her travels with Donald, the most memorable being Tehran, Iran and Montserrat. Their retirement brought the couple to Dedham, where soon after, at the urging of her sister and best friend “Dot”, Lois became not only a crew member, but more importantly, a friend and inspiration to both staff and customers at the Brewer McDonald’s for over 20 years.

Her Christian faith was always the cornerstone of her being and she selflessly brought support and guidance to family and strangers alike. Her membership at the Dedham Congregational Church, UCC, brought many new friends into her life. Both Lois and Donald played a unique and critically important role in their grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s lives. Lois always strived to practice what she encouraged, “Always treat others as you wish to be treated.” In 2020, the couple relocated to Colorado to be with their children. They celebrated 67 years of marriage in April of this year.

She is survived by her son Charles Tash of Denver, Colo. and daughter Janice (Cary) Noble of Loveland, Colo.; grandchildren Sarah Nichols of Brewer, Maine, Bethany Nichols of Palisade, Colo., Zachery (Amy) Nichols of Thornton, Colo. and Kaylee Noble of Loveland, Colo.; great grandchildren Averi, Rees and Ozzie. Lois was the sister of the late Marilyn P. Hawkins, Thomas P. Phelps and Dorothy E. Harris.

A private burial service will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colo. where she will be laid to rest next to her husband Donald.
