Harold Paul “Buzz” Buzzell

SMITHFIELD – Harold Paul “Buzz” Buzzell, 74, passed away in a tragic accident at his home in Smithfield on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023, along with his dear cat, Jacob. Buzz was born on April 11, 1949, in Old Town, to Harold L. Buzzell and Mary “Marie” R. (Morin) Buzzell.

After graduating from John Bapst High School in Bangor in 1967 and studying Forestry at the University of Maine in Orono for two years, Buzz enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served for over 22 years and received numerous medals and commendations, followed by a second career of civilian service at the Navy’s Supervisor of Shipbuilding in Bath.

Buzz was an expert woodworker and furniture maker, skills he learned at a young age from his Uncle Francis Morin, and he poured his love into many cherished items he made for his family and friends. He enjoyed snowmobiling, and he inherited a lifelong love of motorcycling from his father and his Uncle Billy Buzzell. Service to family, community and country were Buzz’s guiding lights, demonstrated by his years of service to Smithfield’s Planning Board, Fire & Rescue, the Snowmobile Club, and other acts of service too numerous to list.

Buzz was predeceased by his parents, Harold Buzzell and Marie (Morin Buzzell) Norton, and by his stepfather Leroy “Sonny” Norton.

He is survived by his wife and the great love of his life, Heather Mood; his daughter Stephanie “Li’l Buzz” Buzzell, his daughter Tammy Buzzell and her husband Zhaohui “Joey” Wang; his granddaughters Juliet and Salena Wang; his brother Michael Buzzell and his wife Susan Buzzell; his nephew, Aaron Buzzell and his family; many beloved members of the extended Mood, Buzzell and Morin clans; and his dear cat, Faith.

Visiting hours will be held at Wheeler Funeral Home, 26 Church Street, Oakland, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2023 (parking on street). A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
