George M. Goodwin

BRADFORD, Mass. – George M. Goodwin, 78, of Bradford, Mass., passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2023, at his home after a long battle with Parkinson’s.

He was born in Waterville on Jan. 12, 1945, son of Forrest and Mary (Cahill) Goodwin. George was educated in the Waterville school system and after serving in the Army, graduated from Thomas College. George married Kathy Fisher in 1968 and embraced his place in her large family.

George’s accounting degree brought George and Kathy to Massachusetts and they settled in Bradford, Mass. He spent most of his career with Agri Mark where he made life-long friends with colleagues, travelled extensively, and won a cheese tasting contest, or two, along the way.

George moved harmoniously through life. From his childhood keeping himself and his brother, Wyman, out of too much trouble in Maine, to his service in Alaska, through his successful career in accounting, as he carved the slopes of Utah, navigated the waters of New England in his kayak, George was a cool dude. He spoke intentionally and shared his dry wit and deep intellect with respect for each person he met.

George profoundly respected nature as well and appreciated both the adventure and the serenity it added to his life. His adventurous spirit brought him and Kathy on several trips through the U.S., Canada, Central America and Europe. Each of the many family Disney trips brought a new magical memory. He was well traveled but knew he did not have to go far to find wonder. Being a grandfather to Max and Will and watching the world through their eyes, his beloved boys, meant the world to him.

George was predeceased by his daughter, Jennifer Ann Goodwin; his brother, Wyman Goodwin, his brother-in-law, David Fisher and sister-in-law, Cathy Fisher.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Kathy; his son, Jeffrey and his wife Denise Dion Goodwin of Biddeford; his grandsons Maxwell and William Goodwin. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Verna Goodwin, his sister-in-law, Karen Field (Douglas), his five brothers-in-law, Charles Fisher (Patricia), Kenneth Fisher (Valerie), John Fisher (Donna), Peter Fisher (Wendy), and Glenn Fisher; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his calling hours on Wednesday, Nov. 8 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the H.L. Farmer and Sons Bradford Funeral Home, 210 South Main St., Bradford, Mass. His funeral service will follow at 4:15 p.m. from the funeral home. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family at the North Vassalboro Village Cemetery, in Vassalboro.
