Melanie Rebecca Hanoian

AUGUSTA – Melanie Hanoian, also known as Mrs. Hanoian, passed suddenly and unexpectedly on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2023.

Melanie Rebecca Ward was born October 24, 1980, in Lewiston to Allan and Christina Ward. She grew up in Monmouth and graduated from Monmouth Academy, class of 1999. She went on to graduate from University of Maine, Farmington in 2003, after pursuing her passion of elementary education.

Melanie is deeply loved by her family, friends, and the Winthrop school community. Our tragic and sudden loss has no reasonable explanation but highlights how she spread her passion to those around her and the impact she had on so many, especially her students. Many of her first pre-k students are now graduating high school. Melanie loved nature, her family, and working at the family blueberry farm. She hated acronyms and loved games, especially wordle. Her bright smile will be forever etched in our hearts and minds.

Melanie leaves behind her husband, Jacob Hanoian and stepdaughter, Jenna Hanoian, both of Augusta; her parents, of Monmouth; her brother, Nicholas Ward and Laura Ward and nieces Samantha and Zoey, all of Stetson; her special cousin, Eliza Cummings, of Buxton; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Carolin Hanoian, of Augusta; her sister and brother-in-law, Dana and Leo Trask, of Oakland; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 10-11 a.m., Nov. 18, 2023, at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, One Church St., Augusta where a celebration of Melanie’s life will follow the visitation and begin at 11 a.m. Following, all are invited to a reception at the Winthrop Grade School, which will begin at 12:30 p.m.
