Dorothy “Dot” Mitchell

TROY – Dorothy “Dot” Mitchell of Troy died Nov. 4, 2023, at Maine General in Augusta with her daughter by her side of natural causes. She was a very strong-willed individual who did not want to give into the idea of death, she loved life and her family.

She was born May 21, 1930 in Troy, the daughter of Earl S. Thompson and Beatrice M. Thompson. She was a mom, wife, a baker and also did many other jobs in her long life on this earth. She was 93. She loved knitting and crocheting. She made mittens, hats, hand towels, dish cloths, socks, and afghans. A lot of her work was donated to school children and raffles in town and those beloved Christmas presents. She was married to Lynwood E. Mitchell Sr. for 55 years, until his passing in 2003.

Dot was a member of the Legion Auxiliary. She hosted many Auxiliary meetings in her home and was so hoping to do one last Christmas meeting, but unfortunately that will not happen, everyone is saddened.

Dot is survived by her four children, Bruce A, Mitchell of Swanville, Lynwood E. Mitchell Jr. of Montville, Darlene R. Keithan of Troy and Wayne L. Mitchell of Monroe; and a grandchild, Jayson Mitchell of Massachusetts who she raised like a son; eight grandchildren (Jay included); and a number of great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of her life will be held at the American Legion in Unity, Maine on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 12:00. A private graveside will follow.
