Winona “Nonie” Cray Massey

GARDINER – Winona “Nonie” Cray Massey, 86, of Gardiner, passed away on Monday, Nov. 6, 2022, surrounded by her family.

Mom was born May 6, 1937, in Dexter, Maine to Christian R. Cray and Lona (Lord) Cray. She was a caregiver, starting with her dad after her mom died.

Mom worked many jobs, she was a psychiatric nurse at AMHI, a cook at Chelsea School and then returned to caregiving at Hall Dale Manor and Home Healthcare.

She spent 17 winters in Silver Springs, Fla. and met many good friends there. She was a member of Richmond Senior Center and Gardiner Golden Oldies.

She was predeceased by her parents; all her siblings; and grandson Anthony Christian Massey.

She is survived by her four children Michael (Judy) of St. Albans, Linda of Gardiner, Sandra (Bob) of Chelsea and Bruce (Felicia) of Augusta; 10 grandchildren, Jasmine of Florida, Nastasha of Chelsea, Tabitha (Donny) of Farmingdale, Nicole of Merrill, Stacey (Randy) of Chelsea and Amanda (Mike) of Merrill, Amy (Scott) of Chelsea, Joshua (Sarah) of Topsham, Danica (Travis) of Readfield and Taylor of Boston; 15 great grandchildren, Kaylee of Chelsea, Shane of Farmingdale, Alexander, Blake, Brooke and Dominick of Chelsea, Logan (Lily) of Augusta, Mikaela (Anthony) of Litchfield, Drake (Willow) of Merrill and Garrett of Chelsea, Sophia, Savannah and Samuel of Topsham and Adalynn and Lillian of Readfield; a great-great grandson Bentley of Litchfield; and many nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank our sister Linda for the wonderful care she gave to Mom, and to thank MaineGeneral, Dr. Edwards and Bekah RN for the compassionate care they gave to Mom.

A private family graveside service will be held in the Douglass Cemetery in Chelsea.
