OAKLAND — Members of the American Legion Decker Simmons Post 51 recently erected a flagpole to raise the American flag for the first time at a local school.
The project, which took place on Church Street, benefited Saint Theresa’s Homeschool and the whole community.
Members of the American Legion worked closely with Sister Maria Kazimiera, principal of the Congregation of Mary Immaculate Queen religious order.
From getting the location approved to digging through the rocky soil and pouring concrete, it was a team effort.
Legion members voted to donate the flagpole, hardware and flag, while giving the school a location to educate students on the American flag and the country.
