Gloria Murnie Toner-Lougee

LEESBURG, Fla. –
Gloria Murnie Lougee, 87, Wildwood, Fla. passed away on Nov. 9, 2023, at UF Heath Leesburg Hospital with her daughter, Suzanne by her bedside. Gloria was born on Jan. 15, 1936, in a farmhouse in Moscow, Maine to her parents, Earl Burton Toner and Murnie Jeanetta (Fennel) Toner.

Gloria had worked as a Bostonian shoe assembler at Commonwealth Shoe and Leather Company in Gardiner, Maine. After the shoe factory closed she did various jobs throughout the Gardiner area. She and her late husband, Richard, moved to Leesburg, Fla. 35 years ago from Gardiner. They would go to Maine in the summer months, where they spent their time at her daughter’s home in Gardiner.

Gloria was a former member of St. Matthew Episcopal Church of Hallowell, Maine, and currently attended Pennbrooke Community Church. She was an avid golfer and won many golf championships throughout the state of Maine and at the club of Pennbrooke Fairways in Leesburg, Fla. She was proud of those championships, and would tell all, of her many holes in one.

She is survived and will live on in her children, Cynthia Lougee of St. Petersburg, Fla., Suzanne Mann and her husband David of Wildwood, Fla. and Unity, Maine, Lorna Watkins-Barth and her husband John of Richmond, N.H., Richard F. Lougee and his wife Maki of Irvine, Calif.; a brother: Leonard Toner and his wife Norma of Aiken, SC, a sister: Vonda Saucier of Redding, Calif.; grandchildren, Dela, DeAnn, DeLora, Kelly, Anthony, Danessa, Cameron, Alliyah and Joshua; Seven Great-Grandchildren; four great, great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; close family members in Canada and her special friends, Jim Smith and Bill Hahn.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Richard E. Lougee, a sister; Vera Klemm; a brother, Bruce Toner and a grandson, Nathin Varbel.

The family would like to thank the staff at Leesburg Hospital, especially Lee and Royce, for the excellent care Gloria was given.

Services for Gloria will be held in Maine at a later date to be announced.
