Idolyn L. (Messier) Robinson

AUGUSTA – Idolyn L. (Messier) Robinson, 95, of Augusta, passed peacefully in her home on Nov. 8, 2023, with her daughter by her side. She was born April 5, 1928, in Franklin, Vt. to Joseph and Lauretta (Tetro) Messier.

After graduating from Franklin High School in 1945, she attended the University of Vermont in Burlington before moving on to St. Albans Hospital School of Nursing in the Cadet Nursing Program. She left the nursing program early to marry the love of her life, the late Wayne Robinson, on Sept. 10, 1947, to follow him during his reenlistment in the U.S. Navy. They traveled for many years before deciding to settle in Augusta, Maine. She began working at Augusta General Hospital, now known as the Alfond Center for Health, as a CNA before fulfilling her lifelong dream of becoming a Registered Nurse in 1973. She would serve as an RN until her retirement in 1988. Not being fond of retirement, she returned to the medical field to teach a CNA course at the Augusta Mental Health Institute, now known as Riverview Psychiatric Center, for three years, retiring for a second time in 1993.

She was passionate about music, playing the cornet for the town band in Franklin and later, the American Legion. She treated every individual who walked through her door as part of the family and will be missed by many in the community. She enjoyed watching the Red Sox play baseball and playing bingo at the Calumet club, where she was affectionately known as “the candy lady”. When she wasn’t attending bingo or church, she enjoyed spending time with her longest and dearest friend, Arlene Gardner.

Idolyn was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Robert Messier, her sister, Genevieve Johnson; her loving husband of 71 years, Wayne Robinson; her son and daughter-in-law, Kevin Robinson and Cynthia (Hall) Robinson; along with her grandson, Tyler Robinson.

She is survived by her children; Kandis and her husband Robert Johnson, Pamela and her husband Scott Wheeler, Penny Sargent, Kurt and his wife Celine Robinson, and Paul and his wife Ulanda Robinson; along with several nieces and nephews. She also leaves 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, with another on the way.

The family would like to thank Mid-Maine Cremation Services for their guidance and support during this time.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 1 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Augusta. A graveside committal service will be held at 1 p.m. on the same day at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Mt. Vernon Road in Augusta, where she will eternally rest beside her husband.
