Patricia Anne (Turner) Myers

SARASOTA, Fla. – Patricia Anne Turner was born during a March blizzard in Skowhegan. She grew up in Maine and was educated in Maine schools. Her parents, Perley Smith Turner and Helen Enemark Turner moved throughout the state as he was a gifted teacher, principal, and superintendent of schools. Pat’s senior year of high school the family moved to Brunswick, when Perley was asked to start the School of Education at Bowdoin College.

Pat attended Mount Holyoke College where she met Tom Myers, they married right after her graduation. He was the love of her life for 68 years and they were inseparable until his death in 2020.

She taught elementary education for 30 years and always marveled that she got paid for doing what she loved. She was a talented and perceptive teacher striving for individual accomplishments of each student. Tom worked in management for the Chinet paper company. They lived in Maine, remodeling an original Cape Cod home built in 1827 located on a dirt road in Vassalboro. They were blessed to raise two children, David and Susan, both gifted athletes.

She was heavily involved with volunteerism, serving as President of the Board of Directors for the Maine Children’s Home. She also organized “The Friends” volunteer arm of the agency. She assisted in writing bylaws for three different organizations. At their Congregational Church she headed the Fellowship Committee. At their Senior Living Community, Sunnyside Village, they were integrally involved in several committees and resident organizations, she was Chair of the Resident Association and was instrumental in drafting the Resident Manual.

Pat and Tom retired together, moved to Florida, and had 30 years of volunteer work, both holding leadership positions in their church and resident associations. They were fortunate to enjoy many years of travel adventures, in and out of the country. A great joy was their trip to Iceland, where Tom had been stationed in the Air Force, but had never seen the beauty of the Island, which they shared and explored together.

She is survived by her two children, David Myers of Aiken, S.C. and Susan Myers of Carrabassett Valley; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
