Cutting back on our consumption of meat is one of the easiest and most important things each of us can do to help lessen climate change. Growing crops to feed livestock is the leading cause of global deforestation. So many trees are cut down all over the world to grow crops to feed cattle and other animals we eat. Those same animals give off huge amounts of the methane and nitrous oxide, which harms our atmosphere. They consume so much water and produce so much waste that fouls our dwindling water resources.

If each of us cut back in some way, such as by having a meat free day every week (or more often) or switching to a mostly vegetarian or vegan diet, we could make a very big difference in the world that we leave to our children, grandchildren, and all we love.

Eating less meat would make it possible to have space to raise more foods that could feed more of the people on our Earth. Fewer people would starve if more corn, beans, grains, rice and other foods were raised to feed hungry humans. According to PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) “The world’s cattle alone consume a quantity of food equal to the caloric needs of 8.7 billion people — more than the entire human population on Earth.”

Please consider this possibility to support the future of humans (and all life) on this Earth.
