FALMOUTH — The University of Maine Cooperative Extension plans to host a workshop on growing native plants from seeds at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at the UMaine Gardens at Tidewater Farm, 200 Presumpscot Point Road.
Led by experienced horticulturists, the workshop will explore topics like sowing and transplanting techniques, protecting seeds from animals and dividing plants in the spring.
Attendees also can learn about the benefits of using native plants in landscaping and their role in supporting local ecosystems, as well as why from late fall to early winter is the perfect time to start planting native seeds outdoors.
Participants can get hands-on experience and take home two containers with the seeds they plant.
To sign up, visit extension.umaine.edu. The program fee is offered on a sliding scale, $5 to $15, with all proceeds supporting the educational mission of Tidewater Farm.
