David attended schools in Madison and Skowhegan. He had many labor jobs before finding his passion in truck driving. He was an OTR and log truck driver for well over 20 years before retiring down to driving dump truck for Fine Line Paving for the past 11-plus years and plowing for Buy Us. His hobbies include snowmobiling, motorcycle riding, four-wheeling, and racing cars.

David was predeceased by his father Gordon, his mother Alice, and stepfather Paul Day.

David is survived by his two brothers, Gordon Austin Jr. of Canaan and Michael Austin and wife Stephanie of Chesterville , his loving wife of 35 years Mari (Doane) Austin, his three sons; Steve Austin of Madison, Richard Austin and wife Barbara of Norridgewock, and Kenneth Austin of Skowhegan, adopted daughter Kacey Davis of Skowhegan, stepfather Roger Lee of Livermore Falls, grandchildren; Mariah Cherry and spouse Derek Cook, Michaela Heald, Devyn Austin, Dante Aday, Joshua Thompson, and Aurora Starkey, as well as great-grandchildren; Axel, Callie, and Cash. David had many friends throughout his life including but certainly not limited to: Jim Peters, Mark and Carol White, Richard and Bonnie Snell, Larry and Ellie Martell, and a special mention of all the Fine Line Paving crews as they are David’s “work family.”

A celebration of David’s life will be held on Wednesday Dec. 13, 2023, from 4-6 p.m., at the Good and Plenty 2 Diner at 59 Lakewood Road, Madison. Please consider bringing a dish for potluck.
