Dorcas M Matthews

NORRIDGEWOCK –

The angels came and took you peacefully away. We want you to know how much we love you and how blessed we are to have had you in our lives for so long. Dorcas was born on Oct. 4, 1930, in Tewksbury Mass,. daughter of Clyde and Ruth Clark. She grew up with four brothers and three sisters, which she shared many adventures with.

She married her one and only Elwin Matthews on Oct. 16, 1948. They just celebrated their 75th anniversary with a big bang of a party. She said it was the best party ever!

Elwin and Dorcas started their married life in Cornville, moving to Norridgewock in 1956, where they raised their four children. They have lived in their Vi home for 66 years.

Dorcas was a cub scout den mother, the leader of Northern Lights 4-H for 19 years, an active member of the Eastern Star and the Norridgewock VFW auxiliary. She worked for the Somerset Reporter and was a cook for the retired priest at Mt. Saint Joseph. “This lady loved to cook”

Elwin and Dorcas through many ups downs and heartbreaks managed to keep each other well and happy, for 75 years, a true miracle in itself!

Dorcas leaves behind the love of her life ‘EL’ what she called him; son Norman (Sarah) Matthews of Kuwait, daughters Ann Morrill of Lisbon and Nancy (Stephen) Pooler of Madison; grandchildren Daniel Matthews, Luke (Joan) Goodine, Katie (Sam) Abbott, Kristina (Robbie) Matthews, Cherie Gallant, Shana and David Morrill, Zackery Matthews and Michael Fitzsimmons; great grands Katelin, Joselin, Dustin, Paige, Dylan, Oliver, Rowan, Indigo, Dominic, Valerie,Taylor, Hannah, Hadden, Layla, Robert, Aria, Odin, Kenobi and Austin; great great grands Byren and Vera; her sisters Muriel Driscoll of Ayer Mass. and Mary Ada Clair of Virginia; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Those that left before her, their daughter Janet Matthews, grandchildren Sydney Tibbetts and Levi Pooler, whom she held close to her heart.

Bottom of the heart thanks and gratitude to Great Grandson Dylan Abbott, Granddaughters, Katie Abbott and Kristina Matthews. For your over and above devotion and tender loving care for Gram during her final days. We would not have made it without you.

More thanks to come Celeste Chartrand, for coming to do Moms hair, you made her smile and feel like her beautiful self. Also for your midnight visit with a basket of hot biscuits and hot tea! And to Delores Ryes ‘aka’ Granny thank you for all your hard work around the house, your prayers and putting up with us, you are an Angel .

So it is true, When all is said and done, grief is the price we pay for love. Your hand we cannot touch, still we have so many memories of the ones we love so much. Your memory is our keepsake with which we’ll never part. God has you in his keeping we have you in our hearts. For Gram Love Kristina
