Vaughn Laroy Mercier

MADISON – Vaughn Laroy Mercier, 91, passed away on one of his favorite holidays, Thanksgiving, Nov. 23, 2023, reuniting with his loving wife Scottie. Vaughn was surrounded by his adoring children and family. He was born on July 18, 1932, in Madison, son of Adloff and Dolly Mercier. He married the love of his life, Scottie, on April 7, 1956. They made their home and raised their family in Madison.

Vaughn believed, as did his wife, that they were put on this earth to serve and not to be served, he demonstrated his belief by serving his country in the United States Air Force and volunteering at the VA Togus logging more than 7,000 hours there. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion and volunteered for the Special Olympics. Vaughn was strong in his faith and attended St. Sebastian Christ the King parish in Madison. He was an avid sports fan, loved his Giants, Notre Dame, and his beloved Yankees, as well as any team who beat the Sox.

Vaughn was predeceased by both his parents; his son Glenn Mercier and his sons-in-law Brian Duplisea and David Webber.

Vaughn leaves behind his children; Vaughn Mercier, Lisa (Mercier) Duplisea, Cathy (Mercier) Webber, Allen and Sue Mercier, Martin and Linda (Mercier) Theberge; 18 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; along with extended family including Kim Mercier and Tammy Mercier, and also his caregiver Jeanne.

We would like to thank VA Togus, Beacon Hospice Care, and Androscoggin Home Health Care and Hospice for all of their excellent care of our Dad.

Services for Vaughn will be held at St. Sebastian Christ the King Parish in Madison on Dec. 9, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Immediately following, burial will be at the Catholic Cemetery in Madison with a celebration of life held at the American Legion in Madison.
