The Lisbon High School Drama Club production offers a faithful adaptation of “A Christmas Carol,” Dickens’ classic tale of redemption through the timely intervention of the Spirits of Christmas, will be presented at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8, and Saturday, Dec. 9, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 10, at Lisbon High School in Lisbon Falls.

Following the shutdowns caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Lisbon High School lost longtime drama instructor and director Jennifer Fox to other career opportunities. In her tenure, Fox had led the drama club to numerous Regional and State wins at the annual Maine Drama festival and brought a vibrant creative energy to the program. With her departure, various members of the community pitched in to keep the program, now a co-curricular activity without a supporting theater art class in the curriculum, on life support for the benefit of the students. This past summer however, the Lisbon School Department put out a call to hire a new Club Advisor and Director for the program’s shows for this school year. This August, Gary Hauger of Lisbon Falls was selected for the role and work began to revive the club.

“The students have missed out, without having a more formal program these last few years,” Hauger said. “They missed out on multiple competitions due to the pandemic and it is time to get back on track.” The students chose “A Christmas Carol” not only due to the timing of the show, in December, but also because it is a well-known, “classic” story that regularly draws audiences this time of year. “We’re excited to share this play with the community and thank everyone for their support as we rebuild.” Plans are already in the works for a return to the Drama Festival in March and to end the season with a spring showcase, open to the public, including student written and/or directed material as well as the hopefully “festival winning” one act play.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students & seniors and will be on sale at the door for all three performances this weekend. Tickets may also be purchased on-line in advance through Eventbrite at eventbrite.com/e/a-christmas-carol-tickets-761407860407.
