Christian Alan Stein

PERU – Christian Alan Stein; a quiet and determined soul, took his last stubborn breath at his home in Peru, on Dec. 5, 2023, just shy of his 76th birthday; his wife Anne and two sons, Matt and Dan, by his side.

Born Dec. 16, 1947, to Dr. Ernie and Marion Stein in Flushing, N.Y., Chris was stowed away to his Maine home at the age of 4, ultimately landing in Pittsfield in 1952, where he would live most of his remaining days.

Chris graduated from Maine Central Institute (MCI) in 1965 and the University of Maine in 1972. Following graduation, he returned to his central Maine home in Pittsfield as a middle school teacher and Ed Tech in the Vickery and Warsaw Schools.

Chris was an outdoorsman, Shriner, Mason, grandfather, master of dry humor, oddly dedicated vacuum cleaner and faithful husband to Anne for 51 years.

In addition to Anne, he is survived by his favorite yellow lab, Token; and two sons, Matt and Dan Stein. Matt lives in North Yarmouth with his wife, Donna Stein and Chris’s granddaughters, Emma and Leigh Stein. Dan lives in Fresno, Calif., with his wife, Ellen Armour and Chris’s grandchildren, Sedona Stein and Maxwell Stein. He is also survived by his siblings Ernie Stein Jr. and Valerie Sinclair.

He was predeceased by his first son, Robert Stein, who died tragically of sudden-infant-death syndrome in 1973.

Friends, family and loved ones are invited to join the family for a time of visiting from 6 to 6:30 p.m., with a memorial service at 6:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 10 at the Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield.
